Care for Young Adults

Day Treatment

Day Treatment Programs (Partial Hospitalization Program – PHP) are the highest level of structure and support available for clients living outside of an inpatient facility.

We’re here to help 24/7

Chief Clinical Officer Sara Fletcher explains PHP
What is PHP treatment?

Partial Hospitalization Program Overview

Day treatment is often the level of care that people will step down to after completing inpatient treatment or a medical detox from drugs or alcohol.

It provides a high level of care, structure, supervision, and accountability, while still allowing clients to live at home or in a transitional living environment during the treatment process.

Clients engage in five hours per day of group therapy sessions, weekly individual therapy sessions, bi-weekly family therapy sessions, and attend our academic and vocational component two days a week.

Who Typically Comes to Treatment?

Recovery from addiction, substance abuse, or a co-occurring diagnosis can be a full time job; Day Treatment programs approach it as such, with the objective of moving the individual through a continuum of care.

These programs can also serve as a starting point for some in the road to recovery, or a safety net for those who know they need more support than Intensive Outpatient programs.

Day treatment is most helpful for some of the following scenarios:

We only use treatment interventions that have been scientifically proven to provide consistent, lasting recovery.
Small Group Sizes
You are not a number, that’s why we provide a comfortable setting where your voice can be heard.
Individualized Treatment Plans
No one person is the same, and neither is their recovery journey. Your treatment program will be tailored to your unique needs.
Academic and Vocational Support
We want clients to get the most out of life, which means doing their best in the classroom or at their job.
The Family Component
Recovery involves the entire family, so we provide support for the whole family system.

Day Treatment Program Details

Activities commonly take place during the day, five days per week, and are also sometimes held during evenings and weekends. Participants generally dedicate 25 or more hours per week to clinical services, and many programs are closer to 40 hours per week.

At the end of the day, participants go home, or to transitional living accommodations, and are able to apply what they have learned with their friends and family.

Once someone completes a day treatment program, they often step down to an intensive outpatient program, which has approximately 16 hours of treatment per week.

Day Treatment Schedule

A common goal of PHP programs is to teach and integrate life and wellness skills to help better manage symptoms and functionality in participants’ lives.

Drug tests and medication management are frequently part of the recovery strategy to support clients’ highest health potential.

Day Treatment Programs vary greatly from organization to organization, but in general include the following:

Dual-Diagnosis Treatment Program

We employ a strengths-based approach and specialize as a youth dual-diagnosis treatment center.

As with Inpatient or Residential Rehab programs, PHP and Day Treatment options are also able to focus on mental health diagnoses, when applicable.

Effective, compassionate, professional help is available for those struggling with addiction or substance abuse. Finding the right level of care and program can lead to powerful recovery and a life full of passion, engagement, and health for you or your loved one.

PHP Therapy Treatments

Our skilled and compassionate team employ evidence-based healing modalities and allow clients to connect and relate to others’ journeys. Over the course of care, medical and mental health professionals are able to observe and assess any underlying issues a participant has been experiencing that may have led to detrimental behavior patterns.

Group Therapy

Led by a licensed therapist, our group therapy sessions focus on a variety of topics that are relevant to young adults in recovery. Some common group topics include things like forgiveness, relationships, coping skills, and relapse prevention.

Afternoon Experiential Activity

Therapy doesn’t just have to be talking!

Young adults in our program participate in experiential therapy activities that combine action and movement for therapeutic purposes. Some examples of these activities include recreation therapy, music therapy, and art therapy.

Academic & Vocational Support

Our support staff act as a mentor to help prepare you for academic and vocational success. They’ll help you with writing resumes, applying for jobs, career placement, college prep, and job interviewing skills.

Family Therapy

Clients will be seen on a bi-weekly basis for family therapy sessions with a licensed therapist to address any family dynamics and provide support to the whole family system.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Individual sessions are scheduled with your primary or family therapist, and are based on your availability and the availability of your therapist. They will take place on a weekly basis.

Consultations with our Staff Psychiatrist

All our young adult clients will meet with our licensed and credentialed psychiatrist for an initial evaluation, then frequently for the extent of their time in day treatment. These weekly sessions are used to evaluate and manage medications, and to offer support where it is needed.

Questions to ask providers

Effective, compassionate, professional help is available for those struggling with addiction or substance abuse. Finding the right level of care and program can lead to powerful recovery and a life full of passion, engagement, and health for you or your loved one.

If you are considering a day treatment program, here are some questions to consider and to ask prospective providers:

Icon Shield Check
Is there a safety concern for the potential participant?
If there is a high risk of harm to self or others, it could be best to consider a higher level of care in the form of an Inpatient or Residential Program.
Icon Search Person
Who is on staff?
Ensure that there is a psychiatrist on staff who actually interacts with clients and can be involved in medication management.
Icon Checklist
Can I see a weekly schedule of time and activities to really understand what the program does?
Ask for a directory of professionals that would be in active contact in a support program.
How involved is the family?
While many programs offer a family weekend or occasional education, not all include ongoing family therapy and support.
