Our Approach
When it comes to teens and young adults who are struggling, we take a holistic, whole-person approach.
At our Reston, Virginia outpatient office we treat a wide range of substance use and mental health challenges. Our mood disorder track helps our clients struggling with depression, trauma, anxiety, and more.
Our substance use track includes treatment for alcohol, marijuana, heroin, and opiates.
We also believe that substance use and mental health go hand in hand, which is why we are a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder program.
Our Team
Our staff is here to help restore lives and they don’t take that job lightly.
Team members are all fully credentialed, incredibly caring, and always willing to chat. Each client has a multidisciplinary team, which includes a psychiatrist, individual therapist, family therapist, and teacher.
We have a variety of different programs available in Virginia for young adults who need help with substance abuse and mental health concerns.
For teens who require more structure and supervision than an outpatient program can provide, we offer our Chesapeake Teen Rehab located near Crownsville, MD.
This 45-60 day program is geared towards teens who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD.
Upon completion of our residential program, teens can step down into our after-school IOP program. We have offices located in North Bethesda and Reston. If we aren’t a good fit, we will help you find an appropriate therapist or program to continue your teen’s recovery.

Family plays a vital role in the overall wellness of each individual served. Individual family sessions are offered bi-weekly to examine the role the family plays in creating new patterns of behavior and changing old behavior that reinforced negative behaviors. Connection is key in recovery. Our program also utilizes weekly Multi-Family groups to reinforce new skills being learned in groups, as well as a source of support and guidance.

The amount of treatment needed is dependent on each individual. A licensed clinician performs a thorough and comprehensive clinical assessment to better understand the unique needs of each person.
The assessment is the first step for all of our clients. The primary reason for the assessment is for us to get to know you and your situation so we can recommend the right program for you, whether that is at Sandstone Care or elsewhere. It is also a great time for you to get to know Sandstone Care as well.
