Intensive Outpatient Treatment For Teens

Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) helps teens start to understand their substance use and mental health struggles so they are able to successfully overcome them. The goal of our comprehensive IOP program is to address substance use and addiction along with any underlying co-occurring mental health concerns such as trauma, anxiety and depression. We also focus on developing good social and academic habits and strive to help these young people become more like the person they want to be, without using substances to get there.

How do I Know if IOP is Right for Me?

The best way to know which treatment is right for you is to come in for an assessment, where a licensed clinician will be able to recommend the best option based on your unique situation.

IOP treatment can be a step-down from wilderness, residential care, and day treatment. It may also be a step-in, where a client starts at the outpatient treatment level. During outpatient treatment, clients receive therapy while continuing other life responsibilities, like school or work, and while living at home or in a sober living environment.

Who Typically Comes to IOP Treatment

Intensive outpatient treatment is most helpful for some of the following scenarios:

  • Teens who have recently completed a residential or wilderness program and are looking to step down into a less intensive level of care to help support their transition or reintegration home.
  • Teens who struggle with substance use or mental health concerns but want to limit interruption of schooling or work.

IOP Schedule

For those under 18, the teen Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program is a longer term outpatient treatment option. For roughly 16 hours per week, this program includes a heavy academic and vocational component, weekly family sessions, group therapy sessions, and weekly community activities.

Parent Involvement

Parents are required to attend multi-family group sessions held once a week. There are also weekly individual family support groups available for all family members to attend.
