We're open for you. COVID-19 Update
Day Treatment Programs (Partial Hospitalization Program - PHP) are structured support networks in which clients participate while living at home or in sober or transitional living accommodations. Activities commonly take place during the day, five days per week, and are also sometimes held during evenings and weekends. Participants generally dedicate 25 or more hours per week to clinical services, and many programs are closer to 40 hours per week. PHP and day treatment programs offer intensive therapy and strong support through a team of diverse professionals. Most programs offer a thorough curriculum to provide a comprehensive approach to focus on mental, emotional, and physical health and well being to help support achieving sustainable recovery.
Once someone completes a day treatment program, they often step down to an intensive outpatient program, which has approximately 16 hours of treatment per week.
Sandstone Care provides a continuum of addiction and mental health treatment services including a Day Treatment (PHP) program for teens and young adults. Our program includes over 25 hours per week of programming with our skilled and compassionate team employing evidence-based healing modalities. We employ a strengths-based approach and specialize as a youth dual diagnosis treatment center.
At Sandstone Care, we honor each individual’s journey and we are committed to being of service to them. If we are not the most beneficial fit for you or your loved one, we are dedicated to working within our large professional network to find a program that is.
Our Day Treatment programs are located in Colorado, Virginia and Maryland.
Day Treatment Programs vary greatly from organization to organization, but in general include the following:
PHP and Day Treatment programs are ideal for people who have completed a Residential Rehabilitation or Inpatient program and are prepared for the next step towards more autonomy. These programs can also serve as a starting point for some in their road to recovery, or a safety net for those who know they need more support than Intensive Outpatient programs.
Recovery from addiction, substance abuse, or a co-occurring diagnosis can be a full time job; Day Treatment programs approach it as such, usually dedicating as much time and energy per week to recovery as one might spend at a nine-to-five job, with the objective of moving the individual through a continuum of care to intensive outpatient (IOP) and then outpatient (OP) as they progress along the path to sustainable recovery.
At the end of the day, participants go home, or to sober living accommodations, and are able to apply what they have learned with their friends and family. They practice recovery skills in the face of stressors that historically may have triggered use, or in circumstances where the substance they are struggling with might be available. Day Treatment and PHP programs are the highest level of structure and support available for clients living outside of an inpatient facility.
In addition to interacting with their home community, participants are generally engaged in a course of care with peers, allowing for connection and relation to others’ journeys. As with Inpatient or Residential Rehab programs, PHP and Day Treatment options are also able to focus on mental health diagnoses, when applicable.
Over the course of care, medical and mental health professionals are often able to observe and assess any underlying issues a participant has been experiencing that may have led to detrimental behavior patterns. Another common goal of PHP programs is to teach and integrate life and wellness skills to help better manage symptoms and functionality in participants’ lives. Drug tests and medication management are frequently part of the recovery strategy to support clients’ highest health potential.
