The First 48 Hours: Assessments & Evaluations

The first 48 hours in detox are crucial, and your comfort and safety during that stage is our highest priority. Once you are stabilized, full medical, psychiatric, and psychological assessments are completed, so we can get to know you and ensure that we have a completely clear picture of how we can help you in your recovery journey.

While your assessment and treatment plan is 100% customized and tailored to your unique needs, the following are some of the topics that your assessment process will cover:

Physical Health

In addition to an initial evaluation with our Nurse Practitioner, you will be assessed every four hours by a member of our nursing team. This nursing assessment includes checking vital signs, monitoring withdrawal symptoms, and administering medications as needed.

Individualized Treatment Plans
Substance Abuse Evaluation

You will have an initial evaluation of your substance use to make sure that your treatment team has all of the information they need to take care of you in the best way possible.

This information will be gathered again later during the biopsychosocial assessment, which is completed by a therapist or certified addiction counselor.

Icon Mental Health

During the biopsychosocial assessment, you are asked to provide in-depth information about the history of family medical, mental health, and substance use disorders to help inform medical and clinical recommendations and treatment planning.

Icon Dual Diagnosis

Co-occurring Mental Health Disorder Treatment Explained

Treating Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

Not only are we experts in safe medical detox and substance use treatment, but we also specialize in mental health treatments here at Sandstone Care drug rehab centers.

We understand that there’s often overlap in symptoms between drug use and mental health disorders, so our staff is trained to identify and treat mental health conditions that commonly appear alongside substance use disorder.

It’s very important to treat both challenges together, as some symptoms of mental health disorders can make addiction recovery more difficult. Our Sandstone mental health treatment uses holistic medical detox methods that address your mental struggles, so you can reach long-lasting recovery and continue to thrive after treatment.

Program Highlights

You are more than your addiction, and our program is built to reflect that. We offer 24/7 medically supervised care to support a safe and comfortable stabilization followed by a comprehensive, holistic treatment approach that addresses your physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs.

Therapy that Treats You Fully

Our inpatient program offers six hours of therapeutic group per day, two individual therapy sessions per week with a licensed therapist, and 24/7 clinical support.

Care that Fits Your Needs

Sandstone Care is not a standalone detox. In addition to our residential program, we have a full continuum of care with varying intensities of inpatient and transitional living programming designed to meet your unique needs.

Environments Where You Can Heal

There are televisions in rooms, high staff to low client ratio, chef-prepared meals, ample green space, and uncompromised support from every staff member. Feeling comfortable is not an extra addition to your treatment, it is one of the core focuses of our program.

Planning for Your Next Step

We are focused on helping you set a foundation for a strong future. That is why we begin to work with you on a discharge plan from the moment you walk through the door. Your plan includes referrals and a warm hand-off to another treatment center if needed.

A Day at Detox

Early Mornings: Waking up

During the first few days of a drug and alcohol detox, rest is extremely important. You will ease into your mornings with scheduled time specifically for waking up, getting ready for the day, breakfast, and meeting with a member of the medical team. The nursing staff will spend time with you individually in order to check on your vital signs, assess your withdrawal symptoms, and administer any medications that you were prescribed.

Mid-Mornings: Letting it out

After completing your morning routine, you will be invited to join staff and their peers in the common area for morning group. This is a time for you to share how you’re feeling emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually, and for staff to assess your needs.

Discussions are led by a licensed therapist or addiction counselor and range from topics like self-esteem, relationships, and trust, to relapse prevention and life changes.

Afternoons: Opening up

You can count on receiving the essential nutrients your body and mind need to kickstart the healing process. Our culinary team prepares daily family-style lunches. Following that, you’ll be invited to join our clinical staff and peers for an afternoon group, delving into topics like mindfulness, life skills, managing cravings, and coping strategies.

Evenings: Community & Reflections

Connect with others who truly understand your journey. After dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in an on-site recovery meeting led by someone who’s been there. These meetings rotate between 12-Step, SMART Recovery, and Refuge Recovery.

After the meeting, unwind with fellow clients, express yourself in your journal, and catch up with family over the phone. Before bedtime, you’ll receive your necessary medications, check in with medical staff, and gather for a brief nightly reflection led by a behavioral health team member. Share how you’re doing mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You will also have the chance to make amends for any mistakes you made during the day.

Substance-Specific Detox Resources

Detoxing from substances can be difficult to do on your own. You may have even used substances before just to avoid the way withdrawal symptoms made you feel. Without proper medical support, withdrawal can be dangerous and even life-threatening.

Our treatment approach includes using medication to help with your symptoms and ensure your safety. You will have around-the-clock nursing care to make sure that you are safe, comfortable, and fully supported.

Cocaine Withdrawal

Cocaine is a potent stimulant derived from a South American plant. It provides intense euphoria, and heightened alertness. Risks involve cardiovascular complications and potential overdose.
