Aiko “Koko” Cajigal is a dynamic Young Adult Dual Diagnosis PHP Therapist based at the Darien, Illinois, outpatient facility. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work from Lewis University, where she specialized in organizational leadership, Koko has gained substantial experience in the mental health field over the past four years. Her work spans a variety of settings and demographics, including early adolescence to young adults, family reunification therapy, substance use disorders, and mood disorders. She is currently advancing her expertise by working towards her Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification.

Koko holds a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) certification and is proficient in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Her therapeutic approach is particularly effective in treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, where she utilizes a blend of these modalities to create personalized treatment plans.

One of Koko’s unique contributions to therapy is her use of art and music interventions, which she incorporates into both group and individual sessions. This creative approach not only enhances the therapeutic experience but also helps clients express themselves in transformative ways.

Koko deeply values the diversity of her role, enjoying the opportunity to meet and work with individuals from all walks of life. She finds great joy in witnessing the growth and progress of her clients, appreciating how each person brings a new perspective and enriches her understanding of human resilience and potential.

Outside of her professional life, Koko is an avid reader and enjoys listening to audiobooks, finding pleasure and relaxation in stories and narratives. She loves spending time outdoors, particularly with her husband and their golden retriever, Cash. Whether exploring nature trails or simply enjoying the tranquility of the outdoors, these moments are precious to her, providing a cherished balance to her busy career.
