Age-Specific Care
We are age-specific, not gender-specific. We focus on the unique circumstances that you face at your specific stage of life.
Substance abuse, addiction, and mental health struggles affect a teen’s ability to function and enjoy life. When trying to do what is best for your child, it is easy to feel like they are always being misunderstood.
We provide many different evidence-based therapy options to help your teen heal in a way that feels natural to them.
There is no one-size-fits-all journey to recovery, so we will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that truly understands your child.
We deliver evidence-based therapy treatment for teens in a number of areas.
After our comprehensive assessment, we develop an individualized treatment plan to meet each client’s needs. Rather than emphasize why an individual comes to Sandstone Care, we focus on the path forward. We rely on our clinical framework to help each client discover their own values and beliefs, strengths, and passions.
You’re looking at how the individual roles you play and the ways you relate to each other effect everyone in the family. In family systems therapy, your therapist’s job is to help family members build that system on interactions that work well for everyone within it. We include your family in each step of recovery, so you can build stronger and healthier relationships.
In group therapy, you’ll interact with people your own age who are experiencing the same struggles you are. You will build healthy friendships and see firsthand that you are not alone and you are not the only person who has struggled with mental health and substance use conditions.
When an individual is struggling with both a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder, the two conditions are referred to as “co-occurring disorders,” or “dual diagnoses.” At Sandstone Care, we understand the importance of treating the whole person, which includes addressing co-occurring disorders concurrently with substance abuse and/or addiction.
We developed our evidence-based curriculum with the latest available research to address our clients’ deepest physical, mental, and emotional issues. It is our goal to reach the root of the substance use or addiction issue. We include the following therapies, assessments, and plans in our programs:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Mindfulness
Somatic Symptom Assessment and Plan
Brain & Body Trauma Assessment and Plan
Weekly Organized Physical Activities
Nutritional Assessment and Plan
Sandstone ensures teens do not fall behind in school or at work during treatment by requiring participation in academic and vocational programs in conjunction with our therapeutic services. While at Sandstone Care, our fully dedicated academic and vocational adviser will empower each teenager to rekindle their motivation, develop confidence, set college and career goals, and foster the skills necessary for independent living.
Medication management involves diagnosing, treating, and preventing substance use and mental health conditions. Every teen is unique and requires a customized treatment program. Our clinical staff helps you become an expert in managing your treatment and medication. While not every individual needs medication, we help prepare and educate those who do.
“Clients have shown incredible outcomes after working with them and their team is knowledgeable, passionate, and always willing to find the best care and referrals for their clients.”

Addiction and mental health often go hand-in-hand. Your teen will work on both at Sandstone.
Often teens struggling with drug and alcohol use also have underlying mental health or behavioral disorders such as depression, anxiety, or personality disorders.
Our clinical team focuses on helping your teen to identify and improve any underlying concerns, so they are fully prepared to address addiction from all directions.

Yes. We have a teen track, which is for teens ages 13-17, and a young adult track for individuals ages 18-30.
Each individual’s treatment team consists of six experts who specialize in teen trauma and mental health disorders including our Program Director, Family Therapist, Primary Therapist, Psychiatrist, Teacher, and Medical Director (supported by our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner)
The teens at Sandstone Care are bright and creative spirits who have been impacted by mental health issues. Typically, they are struggling with, or have experienced, anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or substance use.
It’s important to note that teens with a history of violence, teens that are actively suicidal or psychotic, teens that have a severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, or teens that exhibit behavioral issues that would disrupt the treatment milieu are not appropriate for Sandstone Care.
Each teen is carefully screened by the admissions team and the Program Director, and if needed, the Executive Clinical Director and Medical Director to ensure the safety of everyone in treatment.
The amount of treatment needed varies greatly and depends on one’s individual needs. At Sandstone Care, we believe in treating our clients as a whole person instead of just treating their substance use disorder or mental health disorders in isolation. Our program is individualized to meet those specific needs and as such length of stay may vary. Navigate to one of our specific teen treatment programs to see the standard timeline for each.
Yes, we understand that many people who abuse drugs and alcohol also suffer from depression, anxiety, etc. So, we have a psychiatrist on staff who can diagnose co-occurring disorders and help address the underlying issues that often lead to substance abuse.
