A good mental health practice is very hard to come by — this place is so much more.

“Our teen has been attending an intensive outpatient program for a little over a month. So far, each member of the staff we have met from the intake person to the therapists have been very kind, compassionate, and wonderful.”

Dual-Diagnosis & Treating Co-Occurring Disorders

Not only are we experts in teen drug rehab, but we also treat a host of mental health conditions that commonly occur alongside addiction, also called “co-occurring disorders”.

True recovery support means addressing these challenges together, for two main reasons. First, because there can be an overlap in symptoms between drug use and mental health issues. Second, because people with mental health issues often self-medicate using substances.

If mental health issues aren’t treated as a part of substance abuse treatment, recovery can be much more difficult, as treatment may only be focusing on one half of the problem.

Benefits of Evidence-Based Therapy in Mental Health & Addiction Treatment

EBTs are scientifically-proven therapies that are guided by data. They include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and more.

Lasting Results

The American Psychological Association created the policies for EBT using the best research available. Their studies have shown that these therapy treatments work due to the combination of clinical training and science.

Cost Effective

Since these kinds of treatments are scientifically proven to be more effective, the chances of relapse are less likely, which means less money spent on future treatments.

More Accountability for Therapists

EBT requires specialized training in the different kinds of therapies. Treatment options aren’t based on the therapist’s mood, they are backed by training and scientific results.

Clinically Effective

EBTs are safe and proven treatments, so you can feel confident that your teen’s recovery is not left up to chance. Your teen’s mental health assessments and preferences will determine which EBTs are used in their treatment plans.

Healing the Whole Family

Family involvement is critical to a teen’s recovery journey, which is why we require parents to be involved in our program.

Your teen’s treatment programming will include individual family therapy sessions that address the role the family plays and how your teen contributes to the family dynamic.

These sessions aim to strengthen the family bond, and address any issues that might be contributing to your teen’s struggles.

We also offer multi-family group therapy sessions, in which multiple families whose teens are in treatment meet and find support with one another. By building positive relationships within families, your teens recovery will be more effective, sustainable and rewarding.

FAQS

IOP stands for “Intensive Outpatient Program”. IOP programs are most helpful for teens who have completed a higher level of care (such as residential treatment) and are ready to step down into an outpatient level of care. This treatment program is especially helpful for teens who need treatment but want to limit any interruptions to school or work.

An assessment at Sandstone Care is simply a conversation. It includes one of our licensed therapists, the teen who is considering the treatment, and any of their family members that they feel supported by.

The purpose of the assessment is to better understand your teen’s unique needs, determine if our program is for appropriate for them, and decide which level of care is would best serve them.

The assessment process typically happens in person at one of our offices and lasts around an hour and a half to two hours.

As a behavioral health services provider, our clinical team is made up of a group of highly qualified individuals who are all dedicated to helping teens reclaim their lives. This team includes medical doctors, psychiatrists, licensed therapists, family therapists, and teachers.

There are several signs that can indicate a need for professional help. Your teen could benefit from treatment if they have experiences or are experiencing any of the following situations:

  • Trying and failing to quit using substances on their own
  • Alcohol or drug abuse has become their first priority
  • Having difficulty maintaining relationships with loved ones, friends, and family
  • Abandoning school, work, or social activities in favor of substance use
  • Engaging in risky behaviors or acts of self-harm
  • Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not using
  • Consistently using drugs or alcohol regardless of negative consequences

We recommend completing a comprehensive clinical assessment with a licensed professional to help determine the appropriate level of care. We can provide you with that assessment, or you can obtain one from your own primary care provider.

In general, inpatient teen treatment (or our Teen Residential Treatment) is recommended when your child needs a high level of structure and oversight in order to reach recovery.

The amount of treatment needed may vary depending on your teen’s individual needs. Our day treatment usually lasts 4 weeks, while our IOP treatment lasts 12. Detox can last anywhere from 3-21 days, while our Teen Residential Treatment lasts 60-90 days.

Navigate to one of our specific teen levels of care page for more details.

Our after-school teen intensive outpatient treatment offers up to 17 hours per week of clinical services including group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy sessions, academic and vocational support, and community activities.

Sandstone Care works with teens who are struggling with substance use, co-occurring mental health disorders, and mental health primary needs through our Center for Depression, Trauma and Anxiety.

Sandstone Care has certified teachers onsite at each of our locations to help support teens with schoolwork. That being said, we are not an accredited high school that they can graduate from.

However, our teachers provide structured academic support by collaborating with your teen’s school to help them succeed. This includes tutoring, homework assistance, college application prep, grade recovery, and educational mentoring.

Our Teen IOP program is an after-school program designed to accommodate client’s school schedule to minimize disruptions.

The teens at Sandstone Care are bright and creative spirits who have also been impacted by addiction and mental health issues.

Our centers are not appropriate for teens who have a history of violence, are actively suicidal or psychotic, have severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, or exhibit behavioral issues that would disrupt the treatment milieu.

Each teen is carefully screened by the admissions team and the Program Director, and if needed, the Executive Clinical Director and Medical Director for appropriateness.
