Erika is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over nine years working in the mental health field, six primarily with alcohol and substance abuse. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Colorado at Denver. She started her clinical work with organizations such as the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center, Judi’s House, and The Colorado School for Family therapy in 2006. In 2010, Erika moved to the United Arab Emirates in which she acted as the American University of Sharjah’s Clinical Counselor in the campus health clinic for almost three years giving her the opportunity to work with individuals, couples and families from all over the world. Upon returning to the United States, she acted as a therapist and trainer for the National Institute for Change, a state licensed outpatient mental health and substance abuse agency that offers services for voluntary and court-ordered clients struggling with alcohol and substance use, anger management and domestic violence. She ran substance abuse groups, provided individual therapy, conducted intakes and assessments as well as taught one-day classes. She then transitioned to Center for Recovery, a dual diagnosis substance abuse Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program in Denver, Colorado acting as a primary therapist before coming to Sandstone Care.
